Pakistan willing to work with UN fact finding mission to IoK
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is willing to provide assistance to the United Nations fact finding mission upon its possible visit to Indian Occupied Kashmir, Foreign Office Spokesperson Nafees Zakaria said on Tuesday.
In addition to the spokesman’s statement, the latest press release by the FO read “Pakistan welcomes that the UN High Commissioner on Human Rights, Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein, has raised the issue of the use of excessive force by Indian authorities in Indian Occupied Kashmir, in his opening statement to the thirty third session of the Human Rights Council that started in Geneva.”
The letter puts forth Pakistan’s stance on the UN’s fact finding mission to the Indian Occupied Kashmir (IOK), stating “We strongly support the High Commissioner's position that an OHCHR team should visit Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir to independently investigate the grave human rights violations being perpetrated by Indian occupation forces, resulting in the killing of more than 90 civilians and 8000 injured, including those with severe pellet gun injuries. The visit by the OHCHR team would help to end the culture of impunity which is prevailing for more than 68 years in IOK, in violation of international law and UN Security Council resolutions.”
FO spokesperson Nafees Zakaria expressed grief over the loss of innocent lives in Kashmir and said that Pakistan is awaiting the response from the Indian side on the matter.
He said that the spilling of Kashmiris’ blood should end and Pakistan strongly condemns the brutality in the occupied territory.
