PTI, PAT on collision course?

KARACHI: Allama Tahirul Qadri’s refusal to join Imran Khan’s Raiwind March has finally elicited a response from senior PTI leader Shireen Mazari who on Tuesday drew comparison between the Pakistani cleric and Fateh Gullen, self exiled Turkish preacher who is accused of setting in motion failed putsch of July this year.

“Can't escape this sense that TUQ is Pakistan's Gulen in so many ways!,” said Mazari, Without elaborating on what made her draw parallels between the two clerics.

A rejoinder from Raheeq Abbasi, a senior PAT leader, seemed to imply that it didn’t go well with Qadri’s party, as he went on to hold “people like” Shireen Mazari responsible for the failures PTI and Imran Khan have faced so far.

PTI and PAT are dubbed political cousins by analysts after both the parties separately launched long march in Islamabad and camped outside the parliament for months in a bid to topple Nawaz Sharif’s government in 2014.

Qadri’s refusal last week to participate in PTI’s proposed march to Raiwind surprised many as he was being expected to join the protest aimed at mounting pressure on PML-N government.
