SCMCO Hosts First Joint Interfaith Youth Basketball Tournament

On September 4th, 2017, SCMCO (Southern California Muslim Community Organization) hosted its First Joint Interfaith Youth Basketball Tournament at the Next Level Sports Complex in Garden Grove, CA.
The organization has successfully organized several faith-based sporting events in the past for the Muslim community but the September 4th tournament was the first event arranged in collaboration with other religious centers.
In all, there were 40 teams that participated in the event with over 400 players competing in age based levels, which also included a separate division for girls. In attendance were congregants from Gurudwara and Churches. as well as various other institutions of faith.
The event was officiated by professional referees and scorekeepers and had an introductory session for all players and a second lunch and prayer break for everyone in attendance. Food was provided to teams. The event was a great success thanks to several volunteers who helped register, hand out uniforms and lunch to participating teams. SCMCO members appeared visibly proud to host such an engaging event. They are keen to organize similar events in future to bring together people from diverse backgrounds for fun and worthy causes.
Rules and regulation lead and spokesman Azeem Syed extended a warm welcome to the players and explained the rules and regulations.
SCMCO Chairperson Dawar Naqvi thanked everyone for their contribution and support. He expressed gratitude to Allah SWT for the success of the event. He also expressed his thanks to several individuals for their wholehearted support, including Asmaa Ally and her team, Azeem Syed, Sameer Zayyad. SCMCO congratulates the Tournament Winners.
