IAMC Opposes Swamy’s Address at MIT

Indian American Muslim Council (IAMC), an advocacy group dedicated to safeguarding India’s pluralist and tolerant ethos, is shocked to learn that Subramanian Swamy, a political operative with a history of incendiary rhetoric and hateful speeches against minorities and other marginalized communities in India, has been invited as a speaker at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) India Conference, which will be held on February, 16, 2019 at the MIT Media Lab in Cambridge, MA.
An IAMC press release adds: It’s disappointing that MIT is providing a platform to a person who has a history of hateful and incendiary rhetoric against minorities and other marginalized communities in India. This is especially appalling on the part of MIT, given that a little over seven years ago, faculty members of Harvard University had voted overwhelmingly to bar Swamy from teaching at the Harvard Summer School. The action was prompted by an op-ed penned by Swamy in which he advocated for the destruction of hundreds of Indian mosques and the disenfranchisement of non-Hindus in India. The Harvard faculty decision followed a petition endorsed by the broader Harvard student body.
