Masjidul Taqwa Celebrates 70 Years

Masjidul Taqwa was the first Mosque established in Southern California 70 years ago in the beautiful city of San Diego, says a Shura Council announcement. It adds:
Masjidul Taqwa is a historic mosque. It was established in 1949 by early converts to Islam and was the first Mosque established by indigenous Muslims on the West Coast. Shura Council serves and represents several Islamic centers and Mosques in San Diego, including Masjidul Taqwa. Shura Council board member, Imam Wali T. Fardan, serves as the resident Imam.
Masjidul Taqwa is the closest Mosque to downtown San Diego and the convention center and is open to all community members.
Both the Shura chairman and Shura Director attended the anniversary banquet and joined the community of Masjidul Taqwa in their celebration of this historic landmark.
Community leaders and speakers shared their memories about the growth and development of the African-American Muslim community in San Diego, and the rich experiences gained by building the community.
Dr Ahmed Soboh, Shura Chairman, addressed the attendees with a message of appreciation for their roles and efforts in serving the society in San Diego and conveyed the larger community’s congratulations on the occasion.
Imam Jihad Safeer from Islah-LA gave a powerful keynote speech pertaining to the challenges of the community and conveyed a strong message to the younger generation on how to take the torch and go forward in building the future.
We ask Allah swt to bless our Islamic centers, reward those who built them and those who maintain them.
If you are visiting the City of San Diego, make sure you stop by Masjidul Taqwa, located at 2575 Imperial Ave., San Diego, and enjoy the warm welcome of the community.
