Council of Pakistan Calls for Rooting out the Pandemic of Racism
“Today, leaders and members of the Council of Pakistan call for the racist treatment of African Americans to be stopped. The Council stands in solidarity with every thoughtful American in sending our thoughts and prayers to the families of those who have been killed and with every leader who is not afraid to call out these injustices for what they are – a pandemic of racism,” says a COP press release. It adds:
“In the past 3 months alone, we have seen three young African American lives senselessly snuffed out,” said Council of Pakistan Chairman Adnan Khan. “Ahmaud Arbery was gunned down by a ‘retired’ police officer and his vigilante son; Breonna Taylor, a “heroic” EMT was killed by police in a raid on her own home; and George Floyd was mercilessly choked to death under the knee of a police officer while he cried out for help to breathe as several other officers stood by. These acts of vicious, unnecessary violence against African Americans is a sick reflection of the scourge of racism on American society.”
Council leaders agree that this is not an issue that only African Americans should be concerned about. “This is an issue that should concern every American. Racism is a bitter root that stains the fabric of American society and could someday destroy us all” said Jamal Khawaja, Council President.
The Council has begun to strategize on ways they can provide support and leadership to a united effort to rid America of this scourge. “It will require hard work on our part -- a change of mind, a change of heart and in some cases, a change of governmental leadership”, said President Khawaja. “But if all Americans are ready to look this beast of racism and ourselves in the face, deconstruct the structures, policies and mindsets that allow such a scourge to perpetuate—and put good old American might, know-how and determination to it, we can defeat it.”
“We stand today on the shoulders of those who have given their lives before to attack this demonic force that eats away the soul of our nation, said Dr Jannah Scott, Council Advisor. “What we do today to defeat this pandemic will make a positive difference for many generations to come.”
“We all have a stake in this because the way our African American brothers and sisters are treated is the measure of the health and safety of American society”, said Chairman Khan. “It is up to all of us to do everything we can together to root out the pandemic of racism!”
