By Rafique S. Ahmed

Dr Farooq I. Selod, a distinguished member of the community, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2020 in the blessed month of Ramadan.Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'oon

He was 78. Despite the coronavirus restrictions, a great many Islamic community members attendedhis funeral prayers and burial service in Texas to give Dr Selod a respectful and befitting send-off.

Dr Selod was regarded as a 'pillar of Islamic work in America at local, state, and national levels' mainly because of his services as ISNA founder and member since 1997, founder and chairman of PIOUS (DAWA Organization), president IMANA (Islamic Medical Association of North America) 2004-2005 and one of its founders. He was the first president of the Pakistan Society of North Texas. He built the first Islamic Center of Fort Worth in 1972 andlater expanded it into a large 35,000 square foot mosque. He healed many and had a devoted patient following.
Dr Selod pioneered the movement to read the Holy Qur'an through action and innovative advertisements on prominent billboards near Texas highways, and converted his home office to an operations room to distribute thousands of copies of the Qur'an throughout Texas and the United States.

After graduating from the Dow Medical College, Karachi in 1966, Dr Farooq Ibrahim Selod was committed to accomplishing two extremely important goals in his life when he landed at the John F. Kennedy Airport in New York a few years after his college graduation.

His first goal was to establish himself as a reputable and successful Orthopedic Surgery Specialist in America. He was also determined to spread 'the word of Allah' in America.By the grace of Allah Almighty and his commitment, DrSelod accomplished his personal and professional goals with great distinction.

He was a very devoted husband to Sayeeda Selod, father to Omar, Saher, and Samira Selod, and grandfather of 6 beautiful grandchildren.

May Allah rest his soul in eternal peace in Jannatul Firdaus and give his family fortitude and courage to bear the monumental loss. My heartfelt condolences and sincere prayers are with the entire family during this most difficult time in their life.
