Sadequain’s Lines and Drawings Published

San Diego, CA: SADEQUAIN Foundation USA has announced the publication of its new book titled Lines and Drawings, 2nd Edition.
The primary focus of Lines and Drawings is a collection of over 300 drawings in pen and ink. These drawings were done on and off over a period of thirty (30) years.
This book is the latest link in the chain of continuing efforts by SADEQUAIN Foundation USA. The Foundation, founded in 2007 in San Diego, California, has done an exhaustive search for the widely scattered artworks of Sadequain, which he, in most cases, carelessly gave away as soon as he made them, leaving no trace and no catalog to preserve his legacy. He could not have been more wrong.
The drawings in this book demonstrate Sadequain’s masterful skill as an artist, flight of his imagination, and depth of his intellect as he addressed delicate and tantalizing subjects.
In technical terms, the drawings in this book display the unity of disciplines of drawing, calligraphy, and the traditions of Urdu and Persian poetry which Sadequain shared to his core. Most importantly, the drawings in this book show how Sadequain’s lines, whether complex or simple, performed magically with the complexity of a well-orchestrated symphony; they represent poetry of color, a harmony of rhythm, and the power of a tempest.
It is hoped that this book will be helpful in analyzing the imagery in Sadequain’s drawings and establishing the links to appropriate historical and cultural context. Its empirical research and textual contents are balanced to address the sensitivities that attempt to compare and contrast arbitrary and loaded concepts.
Sadequain (1930 – 1987) was a household name when alive but by the year 2006/2007 his name had been wiped out from the collective memory of the nation. One of the handful of Pakistanis whose name and work should transcend centuries, Sadequain had been forgotten. His contribution to the country is unsurpassed in academic and monetary terms, but the nation did not accord him the reverence he deserved.
The SADEQUAIN Foundation USA has through its relentless efforts resurrected Sadequain from oblivion in its 24 books, more than 100 seminars and exhibitions in universities and museums around the globe, and by establishing Galerie SADEQUAIN in 2017 located in historic Frere Hall in Karachi.

Established in 2007, SADEQUAIN Foundation is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to discovering, preserving, and promoting Sadequain’s art globally. To that end, the Foundation has published 25 books on Sadequain’s life and work, and curated more than 100 seminars and exhibitions around the globe.

The author: Dr Salman Ahmad is an electrical engineer by profession. He spent more than thirty years working on nuclear missile technology in senior executive positions in the United States and was the founder and president of an electronics communications company for seven years. He founded the SADEQUAIN Foundation USA in June 2007 to catalogue Sadequain’s work and introduce it to the world. He has authored 25 books on Sadequain.
