AMMWEC Chapter Opens in Washington DC

 

An AMMWEC press release states: It is with great pride that AMMWEC announces the opening of the Washington DC Chapter of AMMWEC.

Faiz Rehman is an entrepreneur, activist, a seasoned broadcaster and an activist. He is the founder and former editor-in-chief of the Los Angeles-based weekly Pakistan Link, whose website he launched in 1994. He also founded and served as Executive Director of the National Council of Pakistani Americans (NCPA), which ran a successful campaign for immigrants’ rights in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks of 9/11. He has served as the Chief of the Urdu Service at the Voice of America and a senior executive at major news channels. He is currently running a management and communication consulting firm, RFR Solutions, LLC, in the Washington DC area.

Dr Huma Qamar is an American Pakistani born in Rawalpindi, Pakistan (originally from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa). With a multi-faceted personality and a passion for inspiring others to achieve something higher, Dr Qamar moved to the United States in pursuit of chasing her dreams and ambition. She is currently a physician, clinical researcher, public speaker, anchor, public health and political analyst, media personality, writer, certified medical interpreter, and Mrs Pakistan USA, 2019- 2nd runner up. Dr Qamar’s journey has been truly motivational. Despite having arrived in the United States just a few years back with only a hundred dollars in her pocket, her courage to take risks, desire to keep growing, and confidence in her abilities has helped her stand out in the crowd.

Dr Qamar is currently the Director of Investigator Sponsored Research Unit (ISRU) at National Cancer Institute (NCI) designated Comprehensive Cancer Center- Fox Chase Cancer Center, where she oversees novel Oncology Clinical Trials.

AMMWEC board members have dedicated themselves to helping their community and have outstanding and responsible leadership. At AMMWEC, we believe that strong individuals make strong communities, and strong communities make strong countries.

AMMWEC is a non-profit, started by Pakistani women leaders in America and has grown to include women of all faiths and background. AMMWEC aims to strengthen American Muslim communities and bring Americans together. “We do this by empowering American Muslims, South Asians, to address challenges through leadership. We ensure that this leadership is responsible by holding ourselves to the highest ethical standards and ensuring that we are preparing the next generation of Muslim American leaders.”
