APPNA Condemns Killings, Thanks Trudeau on Unambiguous Stance

Westmont, IL: Association of Physicians of Pakistani Descent of North America (APPNA) strongly condemns the terrorist attack that transpired in London, Ontario on Sunday, June 6, 2021. Motivated by hate, the driver of a truck rammed his vehicle into a family of five, killing four. The only survivor is a nine-year-old boy who remains in the hospital in a serious condition.

The victims were Pakistani Muslim expatriates. According to officials, it was a premeditated act, driven by hate and Islamophobia.

APPNA is concerned at the growing incidence of Islamophobia in North America and Europe. It urges government and opinion leaders to take a clear stand and speak out against hate crimes. There must be no place in any country or society for xenophobia or hate. Racial and religious hatred in any form or shape must be proactively tackled.

APPNA thanks the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for his unambiguous stance that the incident on Sunday was not an accident but a “terrorist attack motivated by hatred.”

APPNA echoes PM Trudeau’s call that “it (Islamophobia) has to stop. We must not become desensitized to this violence. We must not accept this as normal. Every time we witness such hate, we must call it out.”

APPNA shall always speak against any hatred or discrimination towards any individual or group, particularly against those from marginalized communities, anywhere in the world. We as humans must all learn to show tolerance towards others to make the world a better place.
