Shura Council Condoles the Death of Imam Cosim Idres

To God we belong and to him we all shall return.

On behalf of the Muslim community of Southern California, the Islamic Shura Council Board and Staff, and its past Chair Dr. Ahmed Soboh, would like to extend their warmest condolences to the Cham Muslim Community and the Idris family for the great loss of their Imam and leader, Imam Cosim Idres who returned to his Creator on Thursday, February 18, 2021.

For the past 17 years, Dr. Soboh has personally known Imam Cosim as a humble and loving father figure to his community, who never acted in a way that would bother or harm others. He was a perfect representation of the decent and honorable Islamic character.

Anyone who met or knew Imam Cosim, saw in him a caring and compassionate leader, who led with humbleness and genuine love for everyone, and went out of his way to make sure everyone was welcomed in his Mosque. He always greeted visitors and worshipers the same, with a warm Salam and a comforting smile.

Even though his congregation was limited to  Masjid Sabireen  in Pomona, Imam Cosim was widely loved and respected by many people in the larger community, especially visiting khatibs, who will be sad when they visit Masjid Sabireen without seeing or being welcomed by him.

It is a big loss to the Cham Community in Southern California, who gathered on Thursday in front of the Imam’s house in Pomona to show their love for him and their support to his family. This is the same house where he resided for over a decade, and where he lost his battle to Covid19.

For his love of the Mosque, and his dedication to serve Islam, and for his utmost respect to the Quran, we pray that God Almighty will grant Imam Cosim a house in jannah (heaven), and to enlighten his grave with the light of Quran, and to grant him the companionship of the righteous people in the highest Firdaus. Ameen.
