AMMWEC and NEBAF Get Together to Serve Food to South Asian Families in Need

In honor of the holy month of Ramadan, the American Muslim and Multifaith Women’s Empowerment Council (AMMWEC) joined the New England Bangladeshi American Foundation, Inc. (NEBAF) to distribute food to families in need at Cambridge, MA on Sunday, May 2, 2021. They helped Muslims, Hindus, and South Asians from many other faiths. Cambridge Mayor Siddiqui donated and joined a call to express her support for the initiative.

AMMWEC President Anila Ali met with NEBAF Chairperson Femhmida Malik and other board members the day before the food distribution. They discussed domestic violence and racism and how the two organizations could work together to tackle those important issues.

The two organizations will collaborate together to make Washington DC internships accessible to low-income South Asian students. Additionally, they talked about the diversity of the South Asian identities and the importance of uniting despite our differences to create a more equitable and open-minded society.

The American Muslims & Multifaith Women’s Empowerment Council (AMMWEC) takes on the challenge of internal and external bigotry by empowering Muslim women on the frontlines. Inspired by our own journeys as immigrants who have prospered in America, we are proud American Muslim women leaders who unite to strengthen our community, confront bigotry in all its forms, celebrate cultural heritage, and build enduring bonds with fellow Americans of all faiths. As Americans by choice, our work is a tribute to our great country and our heritage.
