Consul General Abdul Jabbar Memon Passes away

Los Angeles, CA: It is with profound sorrow and grief that Pakistan Link announces the news of the death of Honorable Consul General Abdul Jabbar Memon in Los Angeles, CA, on Wednesday, March 30. Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi rajiun.

He is survived by his wife Dr Shehla Memon, son Minhaal Memon and daughter-in-law Pireh, and siblings in the USA and Pakistan.

Mr Memon, who had the longest stint as Consul General among the Pakistani diplomats posted in Los Angeles, enjoyed great popularity among members of the community on the West Coast. He was liked by all and sundry and known for his helpful disposition and affable nature. His involvement with community members to better their lot and improve the image of the home country was exemplary. Indeed he lived up to his promise of serving the community and Pakistan, spelled out to Pakistan Link, in an interview in December 2015:

“It is my second day here at the Pakistan Consulate Los Angeles. I am sure that there is a great dynamic and vibrant Pakistani community here and I am looking forward to meeting and serving the needs of this wonderful community!

“My top priority is to make sure that our Consulate is serving the needs of the entire Pakistani community within the jurisdiction of the Pakistan Consulate Los Angeles, which is the 11 Western States of the United States. I am the Consul General of all the members of the Pakistani community – it would be my sincere endeavor to extend the services of the Consulate to the whole community. I would love to have the community’s assistance and contribution where we can jointly work and build the image of Pakistan in the USA, and jointly pursue goals that address a range of bilateral issues and initiatives that can contribute to the building of better relations between Pakistan and the United States…”

“… I am here to serve the whole community and to resolve their issues. I invite every member of the community to bring any issue or problem that they are facing to my attention. I will do my best to address these concerns or issues efficiently. I have an open-door policy and I want to make sure that whoever needs to talk to me can easily get through to me.”

Over the years, the late Mr Memon came to be known for his easy accessibility and open-door policy. His dedication worked and produced wholesome and tangible results. Surely, he will be greatly missed by the community.

Prior to his appointment as Pakistan's Consul General in Los Angeles, the late Abdul Jabbar Memon served as Director General Afghanistan at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad.
