EMS Hosts Houston Ethnic Media Roundtable

Leaders and writers working with Chinese, Pakistani, Asian Indian, Korean and Black media serving the Houston metropolitan area met over lunch on Wednesday, Nov. 30, to formalize plans for a Houston Ethnic Media (HEM) Roundtable.

Funded by a grant from the Houston Endowment, the group's goal is to build more visibility for the sector through news briefings, collaborative reporting projects and meet-and-greet events.

High among the group's priorities is the need for greater language access as well as more inclusive public awareness campaigns in fields like health care, the environment and education. The group is helping

EMS finalize a comprehensive directory of 50+ ethnic news outlets serving the region.

Attendees shared challenges facing their news outlets and agreed that collaboration will be key to the group's success.  The lunch was held in the conference room of Houston in Action.  Photos courtesy of Tariq Khan, Pakistan Chronicle
