Message of Haroon Durrani (President APPNA 2022) for APPNA Family

My dear APPNA family,

It is with an immense feeling of gratitude and responsibility that I accept the position of President of APPNA for the year 2022.

I want to congratulate Dr Rizwan Khalid for completing a very successful year as President of APPNA 2021. Dr Rizwan Khalid has shown great leadership and has steered APPNA in the right direction.

I want to thank Dr Arshad Rehan for his role as Secretary for 2021 and looking forward to work with him as President Elect 2022.

I am deeply grateful to the outgoing executive committee, Dr Naheed Usmani, Dr Humeraa Qamar and our members for their support during the very challenging last two years of APPNA.

I also welcome Dr Asif Mohiuddin and Dr Joseph Emmanuel to Executive Committee 2022.

In the last two years we not only overcame multiple internal conflicts in APPNA but our organization played a pivotal role during one of the worst health crisis in recent history, Covid-19 Pandemic. I would like to extend my sincere condolences to all families who suffered loss of a loved one due to the Pandemic.

There seems to be hope that this year that will bring an end to the global health care crisis and APPNA will continue to contribute in every way possible to make this hope a reality.

2022 will be the year in which we will see the positive impact of all the hard work that was done in the last few years. Some of our achievements are Covid relief efforts, a civil and transparent election season and the new CABL.

My vision for 2022 is to integrate the passion of our young membership with the experience of senior membership. A unified APPNA that stays unique to our identity of a professional organization committed to education, research, social welfare projects and advocating for our physicians.

My focus specifically will be to work on increasing membership, particularly young and female physicians need to join APPNA and take on leadership roles. Our strength lies in numbers, and we need to encourage alumni/chapters to help recruit members.

We will also focus on improving communication with the membership. In an effort to involve members according to their interest, emails from the APPNA will be categorize as official business, SWDR project, elections and conferences.

One of my goals is to learn and benefit from experiences of our past leaders and this can be achieved by creating an advisory council, comprising of all past presidents that will advise the President, particularly on achieving a unified and strong APPNA.

We will develop a long-term plan for APPNA with the possible goal of APPNA medical college/hospital in Pakistan.

APPNA American college of medicine can be an umbrella organization under which all the educational activities, including RESA and MERIT committees, can be organized.

This will be a challenging year as this Board of Directors will be the first to work under new amendments. To achieve our goals, under the new CABL with all the structural changes will be a learning curve for the EC and I am hopeful that with great teamwork we will have a smooth transition.

We will start the year with a strategy meeting in January. Our committee lists have been updated on our website and I am truly looking forward to working with our highly skilled, motivated members.

I welcome everyone to a new beginning. Help us succeed. I am always available to meet, discuss your ideas to help APPNA grow to its maximum potential.

Long live APPNA, long live Pakistan!
