Eminent Scholars and Community Leaders Meet US Ambassador-at-Large for Religious Freedom

 

On Wednesday June 8th, staff (Kalim Farooki) and Board members (Dr Ahmed Soboh, Munir Shaikh and Dr Azeem Syed) of the Islamic Shura Council of Southern California met with United States Ambassador-At-Large from the Office of International Religious Freedom,  Rashad Hussain , at an event organized by Dr Muzzamil Siddiqi, Religious Director of the Islamic Society of Orange County and Salam Al-Marayati, President of the Muslim Public Affairs Council. The meeting was attended by community leaders from various organizations including CAIR, SMC and several members of Masajid.
The dialogue was set up as part of Ambassador Hussain's office reaching out to houses of worship in the area during his visit for the  Summit of the Americas . He emphasized coalition building with faith partners, particularly the Muslim community, whom he urged to stay politically engaged to achieve common objectives that serve in collective best interests.
The ambassador cited the human right violations in various countries, including India, that have been detailed in its  2021 Report  on International Religious Freedom. He urged citizens to stay committed to causes of advocacy by involving their elected representatives and working collaboratively in local communities to raise awareness and action.
