PACC Celebrates Pakistan’s Independence Day in Fremont
A Pakistan Link Report

The Pakistani American Community Center (PACC), Pakistan Independence Day and kite flying festival held on August 14, 2022, at the Warm Springs Community Center Park in Fremont, California was a very well received event. More than 700 people attended from near and far including the cities of Fresno, San Bruno, Brentwood, San Francisco, and surrounding areas. PACC was also honored to receive a Proclamation from the City of Fremont in recognition of its community efforts, especially during Covid times.

In attendance amongst the honorable guests were Fremont City Mayor Lily Mei, Councilwoman Teresa Cox, Councilwoman Teresa Keng, Councilwoman Ayesha Wahab, Councilmember Raj Salwan, Councilmember Yang Shao, and members of the City Planning Commission. The Fremont Fire Department also graciously attended along with a Fire Engine (a meet and greet for kids).

Event attendees thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon. Many attendees stayed late, flying kites and spending a fun day out with families while celebrating Pakistan Independence Day. People joined in singing national songs with great fervor. A wonderful Pakistani dance performance was presented by youth (Zaki Abbasi, Ahmed Abbasi, Yusuf Abbasi, Nyel Umair, Emaad Umair and Omer Umair). Also included was a beautiful national song performance by young girls Laiba, Safa, Marwah, Duha plus another by Zafar Yousufzai, Muhammad Anjum and Muneeba Zeeshan.

An art station for kids and professional henna by henna artist Aroosa were an added attraction for attendees. My Punjab food truck was very much a part of the event serving delicious and authentic Pakistani street food. Excellent professional event photography by Muhammad Anjum of Anjuman Films (specializing in weddings, portraits and events) was also a prominent feature of the proceedings.

PACC team organizers in charge of the event were Muneeba Zeeshan, Asghar Abubakr, Farrukh Shah Khan, Ali Azhar Shah and Asim Bajwa. Special thanks for volunteer efforts by Rabia Adil, Muhammad Anjum, Rehan Ashraf, Iman Haq, Muzna Khan, Zaki and Ahmed Abbasi, Asiya Khan and Urooj Haq.

(Footnote: PACC is urging all community members and friends to be generous and donate whatever they can to Pakistan Flood Relief which is the need of the hour)
