
Prominent Community Leader Dr Khalid Riaz Passes away in Chicago

Dr Muhammad Khalid Riaz — a prominent community leader, a compassionate physician, and a passionate humanitarian — passed away on April 9, 2025, in Chicago. His namaze janaza (funeral prayer) was held on April 10, 2025, at Islamic Foundation, Villa Park, IL, and burial took place at Bluff City Cemetery, Elgin, IL.
Muhammad Khalid Riaz (1947-2025) earned his MBBS degree in 1971 from the King Edward Medical College, Lahore, Pakistan. He came to the United States and completed his residency and fellowship training in cardiovascular disease at John H. Stroger, Jr Hospital of Cook County, Chicago, IL.
For more than half a century, Dr Riaz served Chicagoland as a cardiologist. He served as President of Medical staff, and Board member for Sherman Hospital, Elgin (1990-93). Dr Riaz was a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians. He served as treasurer, secretary and President (1989-1992) of the Association of Physicians of Pakistani-Descent of North America (APPNA).
Dr Muhammed Khalid Riaz was a kind and compassionate professional who cared deeply for improving the state and status of struggling masses around the world. He was the co-founder of Human Development Foundation (HDF) — an organization committed to alleviating poverty in Pakistan. He also served on the Board of Trustees and as Chairperson of HDF.
