Pakistan Is Ready to Hold State-Level Talks with Afghanistan: Foreign Office

Islamabad: Pakistan is ready to hold state-level talks with  Afghanistan , the Foreign Office said Thursday. The announcement came during the ministry’s weekly briefing in Islamabad. Pakistan rejected allegations that it interferes in Afghanistan’s internal affairs.

Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said Kabul must prevent its territory from supporting terrorism against  Pakistan . He stressed that Islamabad expects concrete steps before expanding engagement with the Afghan authorities. Pakistan wants clear progress rather than assurances alone.

The spokesperson urged Afghanistan’s interim government to fulfil its international obligations. These include commitments under the Doha framework between Afghanistan and international partners. He also called for action against groups operating from Afghan territory against Pakistan.

Andrabi specifically mentioned the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan and Baloch Liberation Army. He said Afghan authorities must prevent such groups from using their territory against Pakistan. Islamabad considers preventing cross-border terrorism essential for future engagement.

At the same time, Pakistan remains open to institutional coordination with Afghanistan. The  Foreign Office  said such engagement must produce practical and verifiable counterterrorism measures. Effective border management also remains an important requirement for Islamabad.

The spokesperson said Pakistan attaches importance to meaningful progress in any dialogue process. He indicated that future engagement would depend on actions taken by Afghanistan. Islamabad wants steps that can be independently verified and assessed.

Pakistan’s position keeps the door open for formal engagement with Afghanistan. However, the Foreign Office linked deeper cooperation to concrete security measures. Any future dialogue will therefore focus on  counterterrorism , border management and verifiable progress. – Daily Times
