COAS Asim Munir to Attend US Army’s 250th Anniversary in DC
Karachi: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir is reportedly set to arrive in Washington, DC, following an invitation from his American counterpart to participate in the US Army’s 250th anniversary celebrations, say media reports. The main festivities for the US Army parade will be held on Saturday, June 14, coinciding with US President Donald Trump’s birthday.
According to reports, COAS Asim Munir has been invited to the commemorative event. This visit comes weeks after a serious military flare-up between India and Pakistan, which ended in a US-brokered ceasefire.
The US Army’s 250th anniversary will be marked with a large-scale festival and parade in Washington on Saturday, June 14. The event is expected to feature approximately 6,600 soldiers, 150 military vehicles, and over 50 aircraft.
The date, June 14, was chosen to commemorate the decision by the Second Continental Congress in 1775 to establish a unified Continental Army following early battles at Lexington and Concord during the American Revolutionary War. A day later, on June 15, George Washington was appointed as commander-in-chief.
According to American military officials, planning for the 250th anniversary festival began nearly two years ago, with the idea of a full-scale parade added only earlier this year. - The News
