Islamabad: The leaders of opposition parties, who gathered at the residence of JUIF chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Wednesday night, reached a near consensus to forge an alliance disregarding their differences.
“The objective behind tonight’s meeting is to form an alliance to strengthen parliament and resist the government,” said the Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Mahmood Khan Achakzai while talking to newsmen after the meeting, which concluded on Wednesday midnight. Achakzai said that during the sitting, a committee was also constituted to create a consensus between Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and JUIF.
The leaders of the opposition parties also expressed solidarity with Maulana Fazlur Rehman. Fazlur Rehman said it was unanimously decided to expedite the consultation process for enhancing cooperation between the opposition parties and moving towards an alliance. “We held some serious consultation today and our journey together will continue,” he said.
PTI leader Salman Akram Raja thanked Maulana Fazlur Rehman for supporting the PTI at a difficult time. “Maulana is being punished for standing with the PTI,” he said. – The Express Tribune
