Faith and Dialogue of Civilizations

I wish to congratulate Pakistan Link and Prof Nazeer Ahmed for the enlightening article “Faith and Dialogue of Civilizations” that was serialized for the last eight weeks. To sum up the conflicts of thousands of years that have consumed the life, honor and properties of hundreds of millions of innocent people from every faith, every civilization in every corner of the globe in about ten thousand words was not an easy job. More than this to speak about all this without any rancor creeping into it and to keep the whole conversation objective was much more difficult. Prof Nazeer Ahmed deserves to be congratulated for this. I wish that some one takes it upon himself to make a booklet of this marvelous work and distributes it to our universities to educate future generations about their past so truthfully and succinctly.

Despite all the failures that the world is suffering because of it, Prof Fukuyama has given his verdict that the Liberal Secular Capitalistic system is the ultimate of human civilizations. Prof Huntington has convinced the protagonists of this system that it is facing a challenge from Islam and Muslims. Bush, Blair, Berlusconi, Cheney and Co have taken the whole human civilization into a perilous war of civilizations on these preposterous assumptions. In this bleak scenario the concluding sentences of Prof Nazeer Ahmed’s article - “A perfect world is not one where every one is the same. A perfect world is one where every person is the keeper of the other, spiritually, materially and physically” - is a recipe of hope. But for this we need good leaders. In the arena of leadership it is unfortunate to see that those who are having a vision have no support and those with support have no vision.
